Feeling Sappy

Posted by
Ruthiebear (Titusville, NJ, United States) on 13 March 2013 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

I took this at Washington Crossing Park, NJ. I was intrigued by the color. This is the new way of collecting maple syrup - in plastic bags.
I value your comments.

I'm intrigued. Does the maple syrup drip into the bags? I must admit I never ever thought about how it was collected, so this is a great educational photo as well.

It would be amazing to know how we first discovered we could make something like maple syrup. Looks a great way to catch it with little damage to the trees.

Precious stuff. I've seen where thieves are stealing maple syrup in Canada because of the high price it commands.

Great frame and documentation of the process; I've never seen this before ... great post and capture! How long do they leave the bags on the trees to collect the syrup?

Of course the modern way is plastic bags over metal buckets! I do like the color and the way you caught the perspective of the tree line.

It somehow seems that plastic shouldn't touch the sap. They should be good old buckets.
