ST What Hatched?

Posted by
Ruthiebear (Titusville, NJ, United States) on 12 May 2020 in Animal & Insect.

Walking in my backyard I found this hatched egg. It is about the size of a chicken egg. I could see not visible nest. Made me curious what kind of bird was in there? A duck? A hawk? Or maybe it is a turtle egg?

A mon humble avis, vu le jaune sur la coquille, l'oeuf a servi de repas.
Bonne journée Ruthie

Not sure what it could be. Nice find. I hope it was hatched, and not snatched and eaten by a raccoon or something.

I would love to know...I thought duck eggs were bigger, but maybe it depends on what kind of duck. I would surely like to know what it is.

Did that fledgling fly away ? Or was it a small turtle which is hiding somewhere?

Hello Ruthie,
je ne peux répondre à ta question.
C'est dommage .... mais c'est la vie et parfois elle est injuste.

To me it's an egg eaten by a predator. A hatched egg no longer has the tip of the shell.
Nice day

It may be a Robin... based on size & color. Do you have Robins there?
